Constituents:
| Alkaloid | s. Pyrrolizidine in small amounts (see also Menyanthes trifoliata). |
| Depside | Consisting dihydroxyphenyl ethanol, caffeic acid, sugars. Bacteriostatic. |
| Glycoside | Echinacoside. An antibiotic. |
| Volatile oil | With sesquiterpenes. Antistaphylococcal. All volatile oils are antiseptic. Their lipid-solubility distributes them to all parts of the body. All increase leucocytes in the blood (leucocytosis). |
