Bitter glyco-alkaloidAchilleine (betonicine).
Flavonoids. Including luteolin, apigenin, kaempferol, quercetin.
GlycosideBenzaldehyde cyanidin glycoside (cyanophoric component).
Hydroxycoumarins.
Polyacetylenic amidesIn the fresh plant.
Sesquiterpene lactoneBitter. Cytotoxic effects due to the presence of an a-methylene-g-lactone grouping. Azulene.
Tannins.
Volatile oil0.5%. Including the sesquiterpene achillin; and the monoterpenes, in order of decreasing quantity, camphor, sabinene, cineol, isoartemisia ketone, a-pinene, b-pinene, camphene.
