Hypothyroid, atrophic
Look-up: Endo- / Thyroid gland
Pathology: A toxic thyroid unable to produce thyroid hormones in sufficient quantity. Eventually the body's autoimmune system will turn on the thyroid and destroy it.
(Includes Hashimoto's Thyroiditis).
Symptoms: Myxoedema, weight gain, and tiredness.
Signs: Bradycardia, hypertension carotenaemia, menorrhagia.
Note: Iodine in iodized salt, which is endemic in our food supply, is a likely suspect. It would be nice to know the original source of this iodine.
Approach: Standard toxin elimination techniques.
Contra-indicated: Iodine-containing foods such as fish, kelp. Brassicas.
