Look-up:   Digest / Large intestine


Pathology:
Excess and prolonged lumen pressure from slow-acting bowels.

Symptoms:
Peristaltic cramps, movements every 3rd or 4th day.

Signs:
Tenderness sigmoid flexture on palpation.

Note:
Look for long-term use of sleep-assisting drugs.

Approach:
Improve diet toward raw, fresh foods. Move bowels gently.

Contra-indicated:

Herbs:
these have gentle laxative properties -
Arctium lappa 18%
Verbena hasta 18%
Taraxacum officinale 18%
and for stimulating bowel function -
Hydrastis canadensis 9%;
alternatively,
Arctium, Verbena & Tarax plus
Capsicum 2%,
Hypericum perfoliatum 10%,
Eupatorium perfoliatum 10%,
Urticaria dioica 10%,
Calendula officinalis 10%,
Agrimonia spp. 10%,
Glycyrrhiza glabra 5%,
Commiphora myrrha 5%.

Supplements:
Vitamin C to 1000-2000 mg.
